ASHBY MEMORY METHOD

NEXT

The Ashby Memory Method (AMM) uses multiple types of interaction and stimulation to match each person’s interests and strengths while promoting personal connections and independence. It is a non-invasive therapy which can be used alongside your current medical treatment plan. It is designed to be easy to use and AMM Program Facilitators co-ordinate a plan and provide a progress record for participants and their families. We aim to help you feel more actively involved in your overall treatment.

Early diagnosis provides an opportunity for early intervention and while there is no cure for most cases of dementia, many treatment and care options can delay the progression of dementia.

RESEARCH

NEXT  |  PREVIOUS

The Ashby Memory Method (AMM) is based on the research of the late Dr. Mira Ashby who received the Order of Canada in 1984 for her work with brain injury rehabilitation. Her work focused on those who had a traumatic brain injury. It looked at how intact areas of the brain can be retrained to help compensate for some of the functions of the affected regions of the brain.

Neuroplasticity research now shows us that just because one area of the brain is affected by damage or disease, it does not mean that the entire brain is not functioning.

On the Alzheimer’s Innovation Institute website, you will find links to scientific articles about neuroplasticity and other research regarding brain function and cognitive therapy.
